David Copeland

Born and based in Northern Ireland, David is a visual artist using photography, video and text.
Interested in Landscapes’ power to-both delight and disturb, David continues to explore psychology, landscape, and place.
Using light or the lack of it, mythologies, metaphor, lived and learnt behaviours to explore and research the visual languages of empathy.
Utiliseing conceptual and documentary approaches to visualises states of mind, place, and the boundaries both physical and psychological that can hold us in between.
Biography

David Holds an MFA in photography with distinction, in 2020 after achieving a first-class hons degree in photography in 2017. Showing work in both solo and group exhibitions David recently showed his latest series ‘Darkness Visible’ in group exhibition ‘‘The Rise’/ In Our Own Image"with BLOW Photo / Photo museum Ireland, Dublin 2022. His series ‘a blanket of woven shadows’ was shown as a solo exhibition in Belfast Exposed Photography Gallery (September 2021) as part of Belfast Exposed future artist program that he was awarded in 2020. David also exhibited recently an image from his series ‘a place to sleep’ at the Contemporary Photo Museum Ireland as part of photo Ireland (2022) exhibition ‘Images Are All We Have’. Commissioned as part of the renowned 'SIXTEEN’ touring group exhibition – which toured (2019) throughout the UK including Belfast Exposed Photography Gallery, FORMAT International Photography Festival ect.
