John Connolly

John Connolly

I am an artist who is also in training or more appropriately in a state of  becoming a Seer and a Magician…however being an artist is central to everything and informs most of my decision making. Alchemy could be a word used to describe my work, working on a dynamic of elements, gravitational pull and synchronicity.
I’ve also worked and studied in the field of humanities and theatre; this heavily influenced my work especially in the areas of history and literature.

Multifarious materials are chosen in a vast disordered wasteland, at the same time the body craves to create and mould its own creations. A distant sound reverberates outward, a ray strobes downwards into a dark well and then a fluorescent silver flash across the sky. Deep holes are dugout, earth dragged upwards forced purposefully by abstract hands... The earth-clay pulled, rolled, cut by approximate measure, the soft cold smooth texture, is raised into life. Time shifts millennium, its monstrous, its towers reach-out like giant tentacles moving to upward regions. Deep gorges leave dark negative spaces, smooth plateaus and craggy hilltops lay in communion ...where the earliest nature deities where worshipped like the Egyptian solar god Atum ...so creation began.

This isn't about clarity, rigour or precision, what science and religion strive for, its about abstraction, a lazy overlapping with no end on a revolving landscape. A lazy obedience , an endless sloven persistence. Exposed to the elements, left only with uncertainty and mystery.
