Make a Kinetic Mobile by hand
using laser-cut materials at FLAX-LAB
About the event
For August Craft month Join FLAX-LAB for this workshop, hosted at the Flax Art Studios’ digital fabrication lab in Belfast city centre.
In this workshop, we’ll consider the elements that make a mobile come together as a harmonious whole: colour, shape, size, movement and space.
We’ll guide you through testing different gauge wires and threads and creating a mobile structure. Then, using our FLAX-LAB laser cutter, we’ll design decorative pieces and cut them onto card and acrylic, with the option of adding vinyl-cut shapes. As you assemble your mobile, you’ll be testing the position of the cut pieces, tweaking the wire supports, adjusting the overall height, fine-tuning each piece’s rotation, so that your mobile comes together as a balanced, moving sculpture.
Designed to be a fun and experimental session, you’ll take home your own completed mobile.
This mobile-making workshop is hosted at FLAX-LAB, the Flax Art Studios’ digital fabrication lab in Belfast city centre.
Materials included. Spaces are limited to ensure participants have the chance to play with ideas, test materials and discuss their own project ideas.
