Helena Hamilton

Helena has created a virtual 3D audio visual sculpture. This experience is interactive, enabling the viewer/listener/participant to navigate through the space and around the sculpture, seeing and hearing the work from diverse perspectives within the virtual space.
The virtual sculpture will be part of a ‘NewWorlds’ series that she is developing from 2D drawings, The work will be modelled virtually in 3D,the sounds heard will be from the virtual lights Iinstall in the sculpture ,referencing her previous work https://www.helenahamilton.com/untitled-with The aim of this work is to investigate the possibilities of the virtual as means to ‘experience’.By bringing a 2D drawing into the virtual to be further explored and manipulated by an individual, she seeks to investigate how we perceive both the individual interacting with the virtual work and the work itself,e.g is this work a‘sculpture’,‘site-specific virtual installation’,‘game’ etc, is the ‘participant’a‘viewer’,‘listener’,‘gamer’etc.Does it matter how we define our virtual experiences? And to what extent does this definition dictate how we behave.
“Our reality is fragile, something covid-19 has really brought to the surface-with the rise of fake news, misinformation, more people than ever working virtually and spending more time online, we need virtual spaces which provide space to experience something new.â€
